Book Review
How could I do anything but LOVE BREATHLESS?! Lex Martin sure does know how to write stories that pull on your heartstrings. From the beginning to the end I was totally invested in Jo and Logan plus the whole entire family. The book was so well written from the characters to the drama and angst to the worldbuilding and storyline. The only thing I didn't like was when it was over!
Lex brings in characters from the two previous books, Shameless and Restless so it's like seeing good friends or part of the family again. But it's not imperative to read the previous books to read BREATHLESS. It stands on its own two feet just fine.
I loved the way that Lex interspersed the past with the present. Sometimes in stories, going back and forth between the two makes the book choppy and cumbersome but not Breathless. It reads smoothly as silk. And as for the worldbuilding, I'm ready to move to the Carter ranch! The descriptions of the ranch make it sound do beautiful like at night under the stars, during the evening for a horseback ride or first thing in the morning as the sun comes up.
There are secrets, history, great family members, crappy family members, best friends, worst friends, surprises, evildoers, lovers and more. Reading this book had me smiling, sad, brokenhearted, thrilled, worried, crying and with a big fat grin on my face, all several times over. And never, ever fear, there is a wonderful happy ending. I must say that this is now one of my favorite books and authors ever!
