TRICKSTER | by Christina Bauer #NewPublication #Fantasy #Paranormal #YoungAdult #BookReview #Giveaway #Series #XpressoTours

Trickster
Christina Bauer
(Angelbound Lincoln, #3)
Published by: Monster House Books
Publication date: February 25th, 2020
Genres: Fantasy, Paranormal, Young Adult
***A hilarious adventure after the events of Angelbound SCALA … and it’s all from Prince Lincoln’s point of view!!!***
With the drama of the Soul Towers and Lucifer’s Orb behind them, Myla and Lincoln look forward to sharing some quality time. Perhaps they’ll even do a ‘regular couple thingie’ like a dinner date. Or they could kill more demons together. Myla isn’t picky.
Then a trickster gets released inside Antrum’s secure borders. And by trickster, we’re talking a giant orange monkey with magical powers and a love of causing drama with uptight thrax.
Looks like date night is on hold.

My Book Review:
I'd love to spend just one day inside Christina's imagination...but I guess that's what I get to do every time I read one of her books! ;) ;)  And how could I NOT be excited to read the next installment in her Angelbound series??  LOL

I just adore Lincoln. He and Myla go together like peanut butter and jelly. <3 <3 <3 Peli was a super trixsy monkey.  He kind of reminded me of the fabled Chinese Monkey King. Then there was that evil Earl of Acca (always a good villain), sentient fighting trees and so much more.  Lincoln and Myla had to stay on their toes making the adventure and fun good all around.  I just loved it all and you will too!  Get your copy now!

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I received this complimentary book upon request and am voluntarily leaving my review.  All opinions are my own.

THE WAKING OF GHOSTS | by Lilliana Rose #Teen #YA #Paranormal #Fantasy #BookReview #Giveaway #SilverDaggerBookTours

The Waking of Ghosts
Lost Souls Academy Book 1
by Lilliana Rose
Genre: Teen, YA Paranormal Fantasy

There is an evil awakening.
At the Lost Souls academy, students aren’t your typical everyday alumni.
Rejects from clans, packs, and covens walk these halls, but there’s something more sinister haunting the academy.
A resident ghost has new student, Zarya, on the fight to banish it. Will her actions cause more enemies at her new school than friends?

‘I’m coming for you.’
A message from beyond has Zarya fearful. Her skills are underdeveloped, but as a ghost hunter, she must stand and fight this new evil.

Can Zarya grow to be the ghost hunter she’s destined to be or will forces overpower her and bring chaos and destruction to the Lost Souls academy?

What a fun and fast-paced read! Paranormal from the get-go, filled with werewolves, 'n fairies, and ghost hunters, oh my! If that sounds like your ticket then you will love it. Zarya is the resident outcast, not only from her family but also from her witch coven and school as well, leaving her to fend for herself. Major drama when she meets her nemesis in the park.

Beware of the cliffhanger ending...not everyone's cuppa, causing them much angst and/or to wait for the next book to arrive. But all in all a well-written book with lots to look forward to!

10 Things I Didn't Know About Becoming a Published Author

This blog could be split into 2 separate blogs by inserting the words 'good' and 'bad' between '10' and 'Things'. Since it wasn't, I'll do that myself and list 5 of each. Whenever a good news-bad news joke gets told, the good news is told first. Since this isn't a joke, I don't feel compelled to follow that formula. So here are 5 bad things:
            1.  I am not comfortable making personal appearances. I am much more comfortable sitting at a keyboard in front of a computer screen on my desk in my basement office. I'd rather converse with the characters in my head than with flesh and blood beings.
            2.  I am not comfortable putting myself out there. I'd rather be writing my next book than writing this.
            3.  I do not have the temperament for sales. I tried that once long ago going door to door trying to sell home fire alarms. I didn't sell a one, earned not a penny for my troubles, and felt humiliated begging to get back the job I quit in order to do this.
            4.  I didn't know this would be so hard or take so long. I have been at this since my pre-teen years when I wrote poetry, then song lyrics, then a record review column, then short stories, then novels, then stage plays, then a web site, then screenplays, then more short stories, then more novels, then novellas, then a travel blog. Just remembering all that effort makes me tired.
            5.  The time writing takes away from other endeavors. I have compensated all my life by sleeping less so I could get up early in the morning to write. That meant I usually got 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night most of my life. Since I have retired I now get 6 to 7 hours a night. That's quite an improvement.
Now comes the good part - 5 good things:
            1.  I LOVE DOING THIS! There is no other thing I would rather invest my time in. I feel more alive crafting a story than at any other time. The only thing that comes close is when I'm hiking through the wilderness up a mountain along a beautiful stream to see an incredible waterfall. Nothing else touches this.
            2.  The sense of achievement when something I have written is published, be it in digital format or in print on actual paper. Sometimes I just sit and stare at the covers of the magazines, anthologies, and books that contain my stories.
            3.  Meeting other writers. I can talk politics with my political friends and talk sports with my sports friends, but I get really enthused talking writing with my writing friends.
            4.  How much I have learned. I enjoy doing research for my stories. With the Internet, this has become much easier. No more trips to the library or digging through encyclopedias (for younger readers, imagine Google printed out on paper). For example, I wanted to come up with some activity that could be done in a bog. I came across an article about moth walks. I had never heard of such a thing before (they are much more popular in Europe than here - I learned that in my research). I have never had the opportunity to go on one. But from reading accounts of moth walks people (mostly Europeans) have posted online, I got a general sense of how they went. So I put a moth walk in the part of my novel 'Shadytown' that took place in Cedar Bog (which by the way is a real place in Ohio).
            5.  How much hope is involved. It's easy, so I'm told, for people my age to endlessly mull over the past and yearn for younger days. Not me. I'm always looking forward for the next story to tell or the next book to be published. I'm always hoping for more.
Although the list is split evenly, the good greatly outweighs the bad. And the bad is getting better. I recently set up a book launch event for my new MG novel 'Shadytown'. Didn't hurt a bit, and I kind of liked the people I met. I'm looking forward to it and meeting I hope a lot more people.

PIXIELAND DIARIES {Book 1 of the Pixieland Diaries} | by Christina Bauer #Fantasy #Paranormal #YA #Excerpt #BookReview #Giveaway #ChristinaBauer #XpressoTours

Pixieland Diaries
Christina Bauer
Published by: Monster House Books
Publication date: March 31st, 2020
Genres: Fantasy, Paranormal, Young Adult
WARNING:
If you don’t like pixies, don’t read this diary.
If you don’t like loud-mouthed pixies who are really cool but sometimes get told they’re immature (for no reason), then definitely stop reading.
Oh, and if you’re His Awfulness The Elf Prince ‘Dare’ Darius, then you can kiss my butt. My hatred for you burns with the fire of a thousand suns. Thanks for getting me kicked out of Pixieland and exiled to attend some rando human high school on Earth. You’re the worst, even if you have a cute smile. And nice eyes. Your hair looks okay sometimes, too. But you’re still a creep and I loathe you.
And to everyone else: if you’ve read this far, then you better finish my entire diary.
My story is supernatural, wacked-out, and overall awesome.
***Meet the sassy pixie, Calla, in this 13,000+ word sampler!!!***
Available now!

EXCERPT:
DAY ONE OF THE NEW ME

Dear Diary,

Goodbye, old me! This journal will track my transformation into an all-new Calla. Not on the physical side, mind you. I’ll still be a fifteen-year-old pixie, five feet tall with pink hair and violet eyes. Instead, what will change about me is this: as of today, I shall never play another prank for as long as I live.
Definitely.
Maybe.
Hopefully.
Okay, having a diary means being totally honest. It’s true that I’ve made this no-prank promise before. But today the Elven High Council gave me another super-long lecture on my so-called silly attitude. What a bunch of grumps. All their panties were in a twist, too. Why? I just cast one little enchantment that transformed the council’s shampoo into hair remover.
Which was awesome, by the way. The council are way too snooty and into their looks. Plus without their hair, the council rocks an alien vibe. And their silken tresses will all be back to normal after a spell or two. I think. Prince Darius says my magic is too powerful for my own good. He’s too cute for his, so we’re even.
Anyway, back to the council’s lecture. They reviewed this crazy-long list of how I should act going forward. I wrote it all down super carefully:
Act mysterious – always
Be frivolous – never
There was more on their list but what can I say? I got bored. The council also waah waah waah-ed that if I didn’t change my personality and soon, then this was my last warning. One more infraction and I would be kicked out of Pixieland, my home within Faerie.
Exile would be the worst, so I’m putting together a New Me plan.
Next steps to the New Me: swap out my gossamer wings for a bat look … Only answer questions with a long and mysterious ‘maaaaaaybe’ … And no pranks.
For real, this time.

-The New Calla

MY REVIEW:

Christina has done it again!! I am MADLY in love with Calla and the Pixieland Diaries! After reading the Sampler, I CANNOT wait for the book to be published in March!! (Can you tell I'm excited with all of these exclamation points?!!! LOL)

The layout of the book is largely in diary form, making it fun and silly and full of laughter. Now, normally, I have really mixed feelings about Fae and Pixies.  I mean, they can be really wicked and conniving (a la Tinkerbell).  Calla isn't like that at all which is why I could fall so in love with her. Calla is delightfully irreverent and her delivery is spot on hysterical.  I wouldn't have it any other way.  I loved the funny names in the diary - Bilge, Headless Huntress, Oinky, 'Dare', etc. too. I can only imagine how good the rest of the book is.

So if you love an expert author lending her hand to a new series full of fun, some snark and a whole lot of laughter, you too will want to read PIXIELAND DIARIES.  While waiting for it to publish or to check it out and see if it's for you, I recommend you read the delightful PIXIELAND DIARIES SAMPLER!

5+ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Drawing the Scarlet Queen to central New York’s training grounds, Ria’s remarkable blood triggers negotiations between two kingdoms.
Ria questions her own humanity when she finds herself aligned with Phea, the vampire queen—a woman who’s tortured her and her friends for months.
As all of her secrets unravel around her, Ria is forced to conform or sacrifice the people she loves.
If she doesn’t find a way to break their alliance, the balance of the universe will plunge deeper into chaos, and no one will be safe.
With a sprinkling of Twilight, a bite of Anita Blake, and a smattering of satirical Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you won’t want to miss this dark and witty vampire series.

Excerpt
Chapter One
Gene burst into my room and jarred me upright in my bed. Nausea burrowed into my gut, finding its old nesting hole to roll around in. Oh god. I was going to be sick again.
“Get dressed. We’re expected in the clearing.” He drew the sheets back to hurry me along.
“What’s going on?”
The shift to get out of bed set off warning bells, and my head dropped between my knees.
“Another renegade.”
My esophagus shrank.
I bolted to the bathroom, kicking the door closed as I bent over the toilet and puked. This had been my routine for the last few weeks. Gene was unhappy to admit that my lack of faerie blood contributed to it, but he gladly filled in the gaps as he could.
“We do not have time—”
I wiped my mouth on the back of my hand. “Pull out something for me to wear. I won’t be long.”
Another wave trampled me.
My stomach churned out more bile.
I rinsed and waited.
Twice was my pattern, but some days…so I lingered.
Five deep breaths, and I opened the door to a dress.
“Come on. Are you kidding me?”
“We do not have time.”
Ugh. I snatched it and threw it over my head, snagging the heels that would only sink into the grass. Gene both ushered and supported me as I slipped into the shoes on our way out of the apartment.
“I didn’t know James was looking for anyone.” Fidgeting with the dress top, the line didn’t match the sports bra I wore beneath it.
“He’s not the only one with the job.”
We stood around the semi-circle as Phea strode across the lawn, waiting in her usual spot in front of the entrance to the grounds, dressed like the true queen she was. Powerful. Elegant. Elevated.
She took up the entire clearing with her presence.
Not that long ago, I tramped through that foliage to face the queen of the vampires and ended the evening with a stake beside my heart, dying, and claimed by a man I didn’t know—the one I’d grown reliant on, connected to, comfortable with. I suppressed the urge to reach for his hand now.
The brush rustled, and Vincent stepped through—all doom and danger—then Julia appeared.
That couldn’t be.
Julia was dead.
Dead-dead.
Set-herself-on-fire dead.
The blonde hair shimmered, and Julia vanished. In her place stood the small blonde woman I’d seen in Vincent’s memories. A patch of hair buzzed around her ear, a gold piece holding her hair in place to expose it, and her rainbow eyes glowed with the kind of power that seemed regal.
Not what I expected out of a renegade.
Nor was the corset cinching her abundant dress.
Phea’s surprise shifted her unnaturally, like when a cat tilted its head on its side but not nearly as dramatic. Scarlet stood from her dais on the porch behind our queen—a queen of her own. Bloody, they said. The Scarlet Queen.
“May I present Nani, Maka Nani, noble faerie of the underwater mound.” Vincent presented her in the same way James, my maker, presented me to Phea. An offering.
And that’s exactly what she was.
“Oh, Commander, how naughty you’ve been.”
His bow held an intimacy that came from a reformed renegade. One that made her third in command so loyal to her. Nani, the new vampire, fell into a graceful and practiced curtsy without buckling under fear.
Certainly not a normal renegade.
Scarlet’s obvious interest countered her usual demeanor, wicked and cold—colder than Phea, and it seemed to spark a challenge between the two, given the recent trend of sacrifices they paraded through the grounds.
“She is my claim, Your Majesty.”

My Review
Fast-paced and just dark enough to make me really love it, BLOOD PHOENIX: INFERNO is the fourth book in the fabulous Alisha Costanzo's Broken World series. Not having read the previous three books, I was unsure how I would do, coming in mid-stream.  I'm happy to report that although I would love to have read the first three books ahead of time, I was able to follow along and understand exactly what was happening - the sign of a truly well-written book. I love a good Vamp story and this one grabbed my attention and held it straight through until the end.  I loved how well each of the characters were written and developed, with just the right amount of both drama and snark in the dialogue. I look forward to going back and reading the books I missed and hope that there will be plenty more reading from Ms. Costanzo in the future.  I strongly recommend this book to all true vamp lovers.

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

GODS OF MERLIN | by Priya Ardis #YA #Fantasy #Paranormal #Mythology #Retelling #Excerpt #BookReview #Giveaway #PriyaArdis #GoddessFish

Hey y'all!  Thanks for dropping in on my tour stop today!  Along with an excerpt and my book review, Priya Ardis will offer a $25 Amazon/BN GC to one randomly drawn winner, and an autographed copy of the book to a second randomly drawn winner. Be sure to follow the tour and comment because the more you comment, the better your chances of winning. The tour dates can be found here.

Gods of Merlin
by Priya Ardis
GENRE: YA Fantasy Paranormal

BLURB:

GREAT GREEK GODS. THEY ARE COMING.
Foster kid and occasional shoplifter Eowlyn Patience just wants to fit into her Boston high school. When the Sword In The Stone falls out of the sky like a meteor into the middle of London’s Trafalgar Square, everything changes. Then, an enigmatic golden-eyed man arranges for her to attend a school for the gifted in England, and the irritatingly perfect Matt Emrys from science class turns out to be Merlin—the Merlin, King Arthur’s greatest wizard. Frozen in a cave for fifteen hundred years, Merlin has woken to find the next Arthur. Eowlyn Patience’s mysterious admittance to Avalon Preparatory was not something he foresaw…a disturbing aberration when his most powerful gift happens to be visions of the future. The race to find the rightful heir rages between deadly gargoyles, wizards, and Regulars, but figuring out the troubled Eowlyn might be by-the-book Merlin’s hardest job yet. She’s altogether the wrong girl. Torn between what is right and what saves lives, will Eowlyn do what it takes to win—even if it means sacrificing Merlin to a god?

EXCERPT:

“You are my Gwenhwyfar,” he said. “Or how do you say her name in your time? Guinevere.” I stood, wanting to run but knowing it would do no good. Because I was not in reality. I was in a dream. I played along. “Wasn’t Guinevere King Arthur’s wife? I’m a little young. I belong to no one.” “I did not come seeking a wife. My former love is the reason we are in this mess. I have chosen you to be my champion, my right hand. You will go where I cannot.” I growled in disbelief. “What makes you think I would do anything for you?” Golden eyes glowed as he considered me. Power radiated from his gaze. The power burned so bright, like the sun, that I would be burned if I looked too long. Then, golden eyes blinked. The light dimmed and I could breathe again. He peered at me. I dropped to my knees on the ground. He touched my cheek. “You will do it, Eowlyn Patience, because you crave what I do. You would do anything to leave this small life behind. You would do anything for a bit of power.” His thumb traced the line of my jaw. “Seize the day, my champion.”

MY REVIEW:

Wow!  My mind is reeling after reading this book.  I do love a good retelling of a fairytale or myth and that is what we have here ladies and gents.  A pretty amazing retelling of the story of King Arthur and Camelot!  We have olde English names, Excalibur, magic, Merlin, training, battles, gargoyles, trials, the Lady of the Lake, threats and the ever-present question of just who is the rightful heir?  How could this not be exciting, I ask you?  And it was, it was.  The only thing I found it lacking was that special umph, that "it" factor, that one thing to take it right on into a solid five.  Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it was just me.  I enjoyed the book and would encourage you to add it to your TBR list for sure.

With the Hope Diamond locked around her throat, Jesse Alexander finds herself in the unfortunate position of being a walking national treasure. With the Starfall stone poised to pulse and flood the world with more of its magic, she must figure out how to remove it before she becomes its pawn yet again.

Unfortunately, the stone has a mind—and plans—of its own. Add in a determined tiger, a wolf out for revenge, and an ultimatum to find her clan's missing Starfall stone, and it will take all of Jesse's wit and cunning to survive with her life—and her heart—intact.

My Review

I do love me some Jesse Alexander. Different than any other character we've seen from the indomitable Ms. Blaine, Jesse is one tough, funny and downright crazy chick. It was great to see her again after Water Viper. This book was a nice followup to Book One. We got to see some of the previous characters as well as some new ones. I did feel that there was some repetition in the dialogue that could have been weeded out and thus the 4 instead of a 5. However, Steel Heart still grabbed my attention and I look forward to the next installment with great anticipation. If you liked Water Viper then you'll have fun with this next chapter in Jesse's oh-so-adventuresome life!

Twelve-year-old Derek Hyde isn’t thrilled that the spookiest old mansion in town is about to become the Hyde Funeral Home & Used Coffin Outlet. Especially since he has to live there with his mortician parents, Jack and Formalda.

Of course, being driven in the family hearse to his first day at middle school doesn’t exactly add whipped cream to his broccoli.

As if things couldn't get more horrific, an evil classmate named Nussbaum attacks him in the cafeteria with a plate of beef stroganoff. Seems this kid used to love living in the old mansion himself, but got yanked out after accidentally blowing up his own mom and dad. With his chemistry set. Now his dead parents are stuck as ghosts and Nussbaum is a foster kid stuck on revenge, vowing to get even with Derek’s family for taking over his haunted home.

Derek desperately craves a nice place to live, but a couple of minor details stand in his way—just some blood-curdling apparitions that scare the pants off him and a classmate bent on landing him in his parents’ embalming room. As a client.
